Hello Chaps,
Your Festival looks like fun, must try to get down there some time. If any of you are in Canterbury, come by and see us. |

Despite technical hitches it was a great night. Seth was fantastic and I will watch the rise of Passenger to stardom with glee.
Those who are looking at the site's photo gallery with the thought of attending in 2008, the pictures are totally naff and do not show it in a very good light. Let's hope they use a better photographer next year! |

| We loved the whole festival - our first time and the beginning of our holiday and it couldn't have been better. Well organised, great concerts both free and the final two nights with Seth and Richard - just excellent. We loved it and will be back next year. Well done and thanks to all concerned! |

| Thanks for two great concerts Seth Lakeman and the amazing Richard Thompson. It was a great venue, great night everything was perfect. Where else could you see two amazing people and such an amazing price. My first visit but I will definately return. I can't see what the previous person had to moan about. Well done everyone involved. |

We especially enjoyed the Devon Sproule gig - it was excellent - and the weather was amazing.
The free concerts do attract families with picnics - which is charming - most of the kiddies were very well behaved and listened attentively with their families.
However there were some children who just wanted to play, scream and run around - which became noisy and distracting for those keen to listen to the artist/s.
Perhaps there could be a 'festival kids club' held at the same time nearby - to send the fidgety kiddies off to and keep them entertained while those that want to listen to the musicians can do? |

Just last Monday I was recommended to get to see Emily Maguire if I had the chance, so I yahooed her found that she was appearing just down the road from my Eastbourne Home and I got onto The Lewes Guitar Festival website.
On Tuesday I drove down to see Devon Sproule from Virginia, then on Thursday our own James Chadwick, then on Saturday afternoon in the Glorious Grange Gardens saw Jill Barber from Nova Scotia and Emily Maguire with husband Christian Dunham from Australia.
I met with all of them after their sets bought signed CDs, three Lewes G F T-shirts, took loads of photos and have put THREE videos onto YouTube start with "Devon Sproule at Lewes" and enjoy.
Thank you very kindly Lewes for that Festival, for arranging superb weather and although the gigs I attended were free I must have spent nearly £250 in Lewes! (LOL)
All the Very Best,
Malcolm (LittleBigVoice) |

| Seth Lakeman - one of those perfect moments - glorious sunset, great setting, clear sound and the place was jumping. Can't agree with the previous post, it was a brilliant night and well done to the festival for getting it all together! Roll on next year. |

Enjoyed the gig last night, Friday, and Seth Lakeman topped the bill spectacularly... he certainly delivers live. However, I was extremely disappointed at the poor presentation of the event.
Firstly, the big top which is a completely inappropriate shape and style for a music event. With the stage squashed into the sloping end, like that, you left yourselves with no room to build a high platform or a proper lighting rig, and the few lights there were were virtually on the heads of the musicians. Then, to cap it all off you had a massive tentpole directly in front of the centre stage! I should think the audience at the back must have had an almost non-existent view.
Secondly, what went wrong technically? We were standing there for the best part of 40 minutes, 40 minutes, watching the farce of "roadies" trying to set up for Seth, and after all that there were still technical problems with the bass and banjo miking. No wonder Seth played such a short set...
I'm sorry to grumble... the quality of the musicianship was fantastic, but I've seen better staging in village halls. Starfish in the paddock managed to present 30+ acts in an afternoon, recently, with their brilliant inflatable bowl-type stage, and that's run by teenagers! You should be ashamed.
I'm looking forward to Richard Thompson tonight, and I'm already looking forward to next year (Rufus Wainwright, please!) but you need to spend a lot more time and effort on building a top-class stage and marquee ... It's only fair to your audience and your performers.
With all the backstage talent round here that works at Glyndebourne it's surely not too much to expect. |
